In 2006 Michael Joseph, then CEO of Safaricom, showed me something in his office in Nairobi. I had just moved from Motorola's radio division to its cellular division across Africa.
I was doing deals of 100,000 phones at a time, including with Safaricom, then one of the most dynamic operators on the continent. Africa was going mobile at a speed nobody in the West had fully registered.
That is how I came to be in Michael Joseph's office.
